Route overview The St. Cuthbert's Way is a 62.5 mile (100 km) long distance route linking the Southern Upland Way and the Pennine Way with the Northumberland Coast. Established  in 1996, this cross border walk starts in the lovely border town of Melrose and ends on Holy Island, taking in many historic sights on route.

From its start at the gates of Melrose Abbey, the walk winds its way over the Eildon Hills, passing by the rivers Teviot and Tweed before climbing over the rolling Cheviots to cross the Scottish / English border into Northumberland.

MelroseThe standards of accommodation and hospitality on this trek are excellent as you pass through some of the best kept secret areas of the Scottish Border country, a heart warming and invigorating experience for those with an interest in history and culture coupled with a love of the countryside, it's flora and fauna.

The St. Cuthbert's Way can offer youth hostels, b&bs, inns, guest houses and hotels. However, it should be noted that not all types are available at each stage.

You will see from our guidelines on Accommodation Prices that we have divided the different types of accommodation into bands. This is to give you an indication of what you are likely to pay. However, you can choose mixture of types, eg a Youth Hotel one evening and a hotel the next. It is designed to be totally flexible and to suit each client's individual needs. All subject to availability of course!
