Highland Breaks

The Scottish Highlands feels like it been taken straight out of a fairy tale. Filled with furry creatures, castles and jaw dropping scenery, the Highlands are truly magical. The Scottish Highlands is also filled with adventure and history, so whether you are looking to relax or explore, there are Highland breaks for everyone.

Beautiful Castles

Scotland is home to over 2000 castles, the majority of which are scattered across the Scottish Highlands. Highland breaks allow you to visit some of Scotland’s most famous castles, and see how people once lived.

The Castle and Gardens of Mey are located on Scotland’s north coast, in Caithness. The beautiful castle and grounds was once the summer home of Her Majesty the Queen Mother – you can see her bedroom, dining room and study when visiting the castle.

The castle boasts magnificent views across the Pentland Firth to Hoy, which is the nearest of the Orkney Islands. In fact, if you’re lucky, you may even see the “Old Man of Hoy”. The Castle of Mey is located near the North Highland Way, which is a beautiful walking route along the north coast of Scotland. The route allows you to see some of Scotland’s stunning scenery, as well as providing some opportunities to see whales and dolphins. The North Highland Way and the Castle of Mey are a must when visiting Scotland’s north coast.

Outdoor Pursuits

Highland breaks also offer plenty of opportunities to try new and exciting outdoor activities. From snow sports to golfing, Scotland has thousands of outdoor activities on offer for your highland breaks.

Near the town of Blairgowrie, Perthshire, there is a brilliant wakeboarding centre for those who want to try out something a bit different. Wakeboarding is an exciting sport which involves riding a small board (similar to a surfboard) while being pulled along by a rope. Basically, wakeboarding is somewhat of a crossover between surfing and snowboarding. It offers a memorable experience for those that enjoy water sports. The beautiful Cateran Trail is also near Blairgowrie, and is well worth walking when visiting the area.

Guided and self-guided walks are also hugely popular in Scottish walks. It comes as no surprise that many people embark on Highland breaks in the hopes of enjoying some stunning Scottish scenery. By exploring the Highlands on foot, you are able to enjoy Scotland’s wonderful natural landscapes. Whether you are looking to explore the mountains or the coast, there is a walk for everyone looking to explore Scotland.
