Road to the Isles
Guided Walking: Road to the Isles
One of our most popular trips from the past returns in its original form. The Road to the Isles guided walking trip from Loch Rannoch to the Isle of Skye, follows classic ancient droving trails to savour places like Loch Ossian and Glen Affric, using routes like the Lairig Leacach, Bealach an Sgairne and the Corrieyairack, before experiencing the haunting clearance villages of Boreraig and Suisnish.
Our wanderings take us through the heart of the Scottish highlands, through history and folklore, and areas still the haunt of eagles, deer and other wildlife. The first 2 days will see us skirting the edge of Rannoch Moor by time-honoured paths used by drovers and military men alike. We then cross the historic Corrieyairack Pass to reach the Great Glen. On through Glen Affric, that most romantic of highland glens, leading us to the sea at Kintail. The final leg of our Highland Journey takes us to the old ferry crossing and cattle swimming route at Glenelg, to the Isle of Skye for our last walk exploring the deserted clearance villages.
This tour takes place in some of the more remote and wilder areas of Scotland. Accommodation on two nights (1st & 4th) is at eco-friendly wilderness hostels where there is no road access. When staying at these hostels it will be necessary for you to carry essential overnight items and a share of food in your rucksack.
