The Isle of Skye

Guided Walking: Skye Trail
The Isle of Skye or ‘winged island’ with its 300 miles coast line, is one of those places that inspires with its at times savage natural beauty, its history and wildlife.
Also known as the Misty Island (Eilean a’ Cheò), its pervading Gaelic culture gives a character that is quite different. The whole combination draws one back again and again.
This wild and rugged walk from north to south, of some 80 odd miles, is constantly fascinating, regularly challenging, and never boring. It will provide memories to last a lifetime.
This tour will not operate until the summer of 2024

Skye Trail brief itinerary:
Day 1: Leave Stirling and travel by mini-bus via Glencoe, Fort William and Glen Shiel to Skye. First of four nights at Broadford.
Day 2: We start the trail heading out of Broadford by the old marble track and path across to the coast and the haunting ruined townships of Boreraig and Suisnish to reach Torrin and the north end of Loch Slapin, 20km> / 350m^.
Day 3: From Torrin we now head round the coast of Loch Slapin and below the magnificent Bla Bheinn. Quiet road, paths and tracks and some off-path walking takes us to the fine setting of the crofting township of Elgol, 17km> / 350m^.
Day 4: This classic route from Kilmarie via Camusunary then through Glen Sligachan is our walk for today. Stunning coastal and mountain scenery unsurpassed in the UK, 18km> / 250m^.
Day 5: We pack our gear and load up before heading back to Sligachan, to pick up the route again to Skye’s capital, Portree, which we reach mostly by following the east coast, 19km> / 200m^. Spend the first of five nights at Flodigarry.
Day 6: From Portree we head round the coast to Torvaig and amble northwards but this time high above (and well back from) the dramatic, cliffy coastline finishing in view of the Storr, 14km> / 450m^.
Day 7: Today is spent following the crest of the spectacular Trotternish Ridge, gaining and loosing quite a few metres along the way, to Uig or Glen Hinnisdal, 14-16km> / 900-1005m^.
Day 8:Return to our previous finish point and continue to follow the high ground to reach the Uig / Staffin Road and on through the amazing land forms of the Quiraing to Flodigarry, 14–16km> / 500-650m^.
Day 9: Our final day takes us ever northwards around the coast towards Rubha Huinish, the most northerly point of Skye then up to join the road at Duntulm, 14km> / 150m^.
Day 10: Return south to Stirling via the Skye Bridge, Kintail, Fort William and Glencoe to reach there around 18.00.
