Alternatively how about a walking break on the Speyside Way?
The Speyside Way begins in Buckie which is located on the North East Coast (the Moray Firth) of Scotland. The route continues in a south-westerly direction for 65 miles over 5 days walking – before ending up in Aviemore, a popular town for highland tourism!

How to reach the start point of the Speyside Way?

From Glasgow, the start point at Buckie can be reached by taking a train to Elgin via Inverness and then a local bus.   The transport links when returning from Aviemore are even better where the train station is on the main line linking Glasgow and Edinburgh to the north where services are 4 times a day.

Highlights of the Speyside Way

Whisky Sampling in a Tranquil Environment

The area around the Speyside Way has famous links with many whisky distilleries making the route perfect for whisky lovers! Also, the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival takes place once a year in May, a perfect time to visit if you are a first-time walker and passionate about whisky.
One of the other benefits of the Speyside Way is that it provides walkers, beginners and experienced alike, with a peaceful environment. A welcome contrast to the busier West Highland Way, Speyside has far less visitors creating a more pleasant time walking alongside the banks of the River Spey.

Cairngorms National Park

Approaching Aviemore, you will be in the Cairngorms National Park, popular for its nature and wildlife, outdoor activities and holding a variety of events.   Spending time here at any time of year is an added bonus to any walking holiday with walks at Rothiemurchus Forest and Loch Morlich well worth a visit.
At EasyWays we like to make sure that our walkers are kept updated with the latest in information and news. Take a look at our last post about how we can tailor your West Highland Way walking experience to your needs!
