In series three of Outlander, they show the Battle of Culloden. As one of the most important battles in Scottish history, this is a site definitely worth the visit, to learn more about the final battle of the 1745 Jacobite Rising. Urquhart Castle
Urquhart Castle is one of the most famous in the Scottish Highlands! Located on the north shore of Loch Ness, half an hour from Inverness, the castle was passed back from the English to the Scottish during the Wars of Independence and was left in ruins after being blown up during the Jacobite Risings. An iconic site of Scottish culture, it most definitely is worth exploring after walking the South Loch Ness Trail.
Beauly Priory
The final site we recommend visiting is Beauly Priory. Today, the ruins of the Priory are looked after by Historic Environment Scotland and are open for visitors all year. A popular location with international Outlander fans, Beauly Priory is only a 25 minute drive from Inverness. A perfect place to spend time after walking for a couple of days!
