A Guide to Long Distance Walking Events – Advice from EasyWays
Glasgow Walking Lunch – 6th April to 2nd November
Beginning on Saturday the 6th of April at 12.00pm, Glasgow Walking Lunch is an event guided by Andrea Pearson – a food and travel writer. Discover stories of Glasgow’s past by sampling food and drink from quintessential, renowned cafes and restaurants throughout the city’s Merchant City. The tour lasts for roughly 45 minutes, during which you will learn about Glaswegian heritage dating back over 1,000 years. Though the first date of the event is the 6th April, there are tours taking place on Saturdays throughout the Summer and Autumn!
This tour is an ideal option if you are looking for a city-based walking experience. Why not incorporate Glasgow Walking Lunch with walking the West Highland Way? It’ll be easy to pop on a train to Milngavie before or after your tour! Make the most of your time in Central Scotland – EasyWays can organise a bespoke walking holiday package for any route around Scotland.
Walk Islay – 21st to 26th April
Another walking festival you can take part in in April is Walk Islay. Islay is a Scottish island in the Southern Hebrides, which you can reach by ferry from Kennacraig on the West Coast, or by aeroplane from Glasgow Airport. During the week-long festival, which begins on Easter Sunday the 21st April and ends 5 days later on Friday the 26th, there are 6 different walks you have the opportunity to participate in.
The annual festival covers routes all over Islay, and also includes routes on the smaller islands of Jura and Colonsay. Each route offers a different level of difficulty; from easy to strenuous. Also, it provides an amazing opportunity to take in some of the most beautiful views and scenery of Scottish islands. Islay is renowned for it’s distilleries, stunning beaches and abundant wildlife – we think this event is a great introduction to long distance walking, give it a try!
Galashiels Walking Weekend – 26th to 28th April
Our last recommendation for some walking festival fun in April is the Galashiels Walking Weekend! An ideal event if you’re interested in walking the St Cuthbert’s Way in the future, get a taste for surroundings of the Scottish borders with this two day event. Over the weekend you will be lead by locals through routes around Galashiels; we think it to be the perfect opportunity to explore a new part of Scotland.
