Spend Valentine’s Day in spectacular surroundings featured in Outlander!

Aberdour Castle

Located in Fife, Aberdour Castle plays the part of a monastery which is to be located on the French north coast in Outlander. Dating back to the 12th century, the property is considered one of the oldest castles in Scotland. The perfect option if you’re heading to Edinburgh for a Valentine’s city break, the idyllic location is just a short journey over the river! Aberdour Castle has stunning surroundings and ruins, which hold so much history. A magical, mysterious location and a lovely spot for the 14th of February.

Drummond Castle Gardens

Another location in Scotland which is fictitiously French in Outlander is Drummond Castle Gardens from 17th century Scottish Renaissance period. With a combination of formal terraces, statues, urns and fountains and a redesign in the 19th century, the Beech lined gardens are one of the most formal and largest of its type in Scotland and Europe. The castle plays the Palace of Versailles in Outlander! Is there any better place to spend the most romantic day of the year?

Loch Katrine

And finally, the last of our recommendations is Loch Katrine. The backdrop of many scenes in series 2, Loch Katrine is located in the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. The perfect quaint setting for romantic holidays in Scotland. This area is perfect if you’re searching for somewhere to enjoy a mini-break over Valentine’s Day. Or, celebrate the season by booking a walking holiday in the area! The West Highland Way is one of our most popular walking routes and is located incredibly close to this Outlander filming location.
