Via Francigena to Rome

Via Francigena to Rome ~ 75 miles (120.5 km) ~ 7 days walking

Walk in the footsteps of history over the final 100km of the Via Francigena into the Eternal City of Rome.

Begin your tour on arrival in Italy with a private transfer to the medieval town of Montefiascone to walk back on old Roman roads, paths and forest trails over the ancient Lazio landscape south to Rome.

Accommodation

Selected 3-star town hotels with en-suite facilities and breakfast included.   Each reflects the typical style of the town / region to enhance your tour experience along the route.

Terrain

The terrain is rated generally as easy with gradual elevations and descents, most arising between Campagnano and La Giustiniana.

Various options are available to walkers including a 1st night in Montefiascone before walking to Viterbo as Day 2 (18km)  This will extend your tour to 8 overnights.

Also Day 6 can be taken as a morning transfer from La Storta into Rome to allow more time to visit the many sights in the city.

Time of Travel

Route walking is available anytime from March until October. Spring and Autumn months act as the shoulder season to avoid the summer temperatures in July and August.  September is harvest time when temperatures will begin to decline.

Arrival in Italy

There are many options of air travel from UK into both Fiumicino and Ciampino Airports.  A private transfer to the route start point is highly recommended as public transport to Montefiascone is very time consuming.  The cost of this transfer is included in your tour.
