Highlights of The Cateran Trail – Walks Around Blairgowrie

Blairgowrie

Of course, one of the highlights of the Cateran Trail is going to be Blairgowrie – it’s where our walkers always spend most of their time! It’s the heart of Perthshire’s fruit and vegetable growing industry and is surrounded by farms of raspberries, strawberries, asparagus and potatoes. Sitting on the River Ericht, it is one of the largest towns in Perthshire and one of the friendliest! Before or after you walk the Cateran Trail be sure and spend time exploring the local shops, cafes and sights.

Glenisla

Another highlight of the circular is Glenisla. 10 miles north of Blairgowrie, you will pass through it towards the end of your 5 days of walking. The most westerly of the Glens in Angus, Glenisla is a place for lovers of nature. Though we don’t have accommodation here, it is very worthwhile to come back and spend time at its wildlife preserve! You might catch glimpse of some ospreys if you are planning a trip around winter time.

Perth

Though it isn’t a part of the Cateran Trail, there is a likelihood that you will pass through Perth if you are walking this route! Perth sometimes gets overlooked. However, if you are setting out to explore the east of the country, you should try and spend time there! Perth is a town with lots of history, named the “Fair City,” there is Scone Palace, museums, art galleries and gardens.
