Don’t Miss These Scottish Long Distance Walks in 2019
Isle of Skye Spectacular
The Isle of Skye is one of the most popular tourist destinations is Scotland, where walking is one of the most popular activities, so of course you must not miss The Isle of Skye. This route offers a mix of coastal scenery and trekking through hills. Beginning on the most southerly point of the island, your walk on Skye is flexible depending on where you would like to spend the most time. We will ensure that you are using your time most effectively depending on what you would like to see on Skye (the Fairy Pools, the largest town of Portree or the Old Man of Storr) and we will plan your route around it. Put the Isle of Skye Spectacular on your To-Do list for next year!
North Highland Way
Another walking route you will be disappointed to miss out on is the North Highland Way. Due to its location, a walk on the North Highland Way will ensure that you get away from the crowds and experience the remote north coast. Walking for seven days and 78.5 miles, the route begins in Thurso and ends in Durness, the path through which will feature some of the most beautiful views onto the North Atlantic coast. This part of Scotland is particularly known for its history and its beaches, so make sure you spend time exploring! Of course, we can customise this route depending on your needs and how long you would like to walk. But, if you are interested in seeing the northernmost Highlands of Scotland, this route is for you.
Arran Coastal Way
Interested in exploring the Western Isles of Scotland? The Arran Coastal Way is incredibly easy to reach and gives some of the most amazing views of the Scottish West Coast. The Isle of Arran is often described as “Scotland in Miniature,” so, perhaps if you’re visiting for the first time, this is the walk to choose! The route begins and ends in the biggest town of Brodick and covers the whole island. Because it goes all the way round the island and covers mountainous terrain, the Arran Coastal Way is very popular with walkers, cyclists and climbers at most times of year. Aside from its more hilly paths and circular route – which makes it very versatile and adaptable – the route brings views out onto the Firth of Clyde and Kintyre peninsula. As with any of our other walks, this one can be personalised, so if you would like to go to a specific place or enjoy a tasting at the Isle of Arran Distillery for a while, we can make that happen!
Great Glen Way
Another walk you should consider next year is the Great Glen Way. Beginning in Fort William and ending in Inverness, we believe this route is one of the best to complete if you’ve never gone long distance walking before. For six days and 73 miles, this walking route will take you by lochs, forests and hills, allowing you to experience some of the most wonderful views of Loch Ness. Just as the North Highland Way takes you through an abundance of ancient sites and heritage, so does the Great Glen Way. So, get ready to improve your knowledge of Scottish history with your walking trip in 2019.
West Highland Way
Of course, we couldn’t write about five walks without mentioning our walk of the month, the West Highland Way! By far our most popular route, the West Highland Way should be on everyone’s bucket list. It is incredibly easy to reach from Glasgow City Centre, begins in Milngavie and ends in Fort William. Our standard package covers seven days’ walking, eight nights and 94.5 miles. As mentioned previously, we like to cater our walking packages to you and so, we offer many different variations of the West Highland Way. It doesn’t matter if you choose to walk for 5 or 7 days, this route is completely adaptable! In fact, you can learn more about the West Highland Way and it’s ultimate checklist in our last post.
