Anstruther and Pittenweem
Located right on the East Neuk coastline, between Edinburgh and Dundee, is Anstruther. A charming town that you must spend time in when visiting the area! With a population of 3,500, it is home to what is considered one of the UK’s best chip shops Anstruther Fish Bar, and definitely doesn’t disappoint for stunning sea views! Aside from a variety of pretty houses and buildings, you will also be able to enjoy Anstruther’s sandy beaches, very popular with locals and tourists! In fact, just along the coast is another quaint village called Pittenweem. This town hosts its own annual arts festival every August. Based in homes, studios and galleries all over the area, last year the festival featured over 132 artists! A perfect destination to visit when walking the Fife Coastal Path in 2019.

Falkland Palace
Another place that comes highly recommended, is the Falkland Palace. The 16th Century icon of Scottish Gothic/Renaissance architecture has been visited by many famous figures including Johnny Cash! Built by Scottish and French craftspeople, it is believed that Mary, Queen of Scots enjoyed many days at the Palace and Gardens. Nowadays, visitors can spend time walking around as the building and grounds. The National Trust now own it and keep it well. It is also home to Britain’s first tennis courts!
Scottish Deer Centre
Our final suggestion if you are considering a trip to the Fife area, is to stop by the Scottish Deer Centre! Located in Cupar, just outside of St Andrew’s, the centre is home to 13 different species of deer. With also wolves, wildcats and the most recent addition of a brown bear; there are many activities you can take part in, including a guided tour of the centre, a Bird of Prey demonstration, otter feeding etc. This is an excellent place for kids to learn about wildlife while having some fun. With an indoor play area, an adventure playground and some woodland walks there is a lot to catch their attention! Open all year, the deer centre is family run and an ideal day out if you are looking to do something different.

- Fife is known as an “ancient kingdom” and is consistently referred to “Scotland in miniature.”
- The town of Dunfermline in Fife used to be Scotland’s capital, before Edinburgh (its abbey is also worth a visit!)
- Some of the popular television series Outlander was filmed in Fife. You might spot sites including the previously mentioned Falkland Palace, as well as Aberdour Castle, Culross Palace and Dysart Harbour if you’re a fan of the programme!
