Travel Ideas for 2018 – The Cowal Way

Where is The Cowal Way?

The Cowal area is located in Argyll and Islands region in on Scotland’s west coast. With the only major town of Dunoon reachable by boat from Gourock train station, to reach the area by land from Glasgow would take a couple of hours. A population of only 20,000 people, Cowal is quite small, which makes its beautiful scenery even more prominent. Include the Cowal Way as part of your travel ideas for 2018, a place with lots of culture and history, Cowal is an ideal place to experience on foot!

A great experience to see lots of different Scottish scenery!

The actual Cowal Way route begins in Portavadie, a remote village, which is accessible by boat from Tarbert. From Portavadie the route heads inwards more towards the mainland of Scotland, passing through dramatic surroundings, on a terrain made up of forestry tracks, footpaths, hillsides and quiet roads. A shorter route than others we offer at EasyWays, like the West Highland Way, the Cowal Way takes 5 days, ending in Inveruglas, which is on the banks of the famous Loch Lomond!

Why Walk the Cowal Way?

Ever since it was established in 2000, the Cowal Way has proved a popular route because of its varied landscapes and location, a glimpse into the Highlands, yet more accessible from central Scotland! There is so much to see when walking the Cowal Way; magnificent birds of prey, foxes, deer, squirrels and heritage sites like Dunans Castle, Millhouse Powder Mill. There are many photo opportunities and points to take in your surroundings throughout the route.
