Where is Elie?
Elie is a very popular seaside town in Fife, which is located in the North East of Scotland. You can travel to Elie from Edinburgh by bus or by train. It is also easily by car. To get to the Elie Chain Walk, follow Earlsferry High Street from Fife town centre. There is a car park conveniently located across from the golf course. Check out our previous posts to find out what is on in the local area and make the most of your visit.
What to Expect
The chain walk is more of a scramble! The route follows eight chains, which run vertically or horizontally. Over the course of the walk there are rocks, cliff tops and caves. The route takes around an hour depending on ability and is a distance of 0.5km. The Elie Chain Walk is also suitable for children over 8 years old. However, it is important to check tide levels the morning of the walk. This route can be dangerous to attempt if you are not prepared.
EasyWays honestly is one of the most service-orientated and flexible travel agencies we’ve ever experienced. Without a doubt we will return to Scotland and book with EasyWays again!Maarten, July 2014, Holland
- Wear suitable clothing! Make sure the shoes you are wearing are tough, have good grip and practical for the weather circumstances.
- The safest way to tackle the climb or descent is to face the rock when you are climbing and keep the chain between your legs.
- Take care! It goes without saying but in some places of the route there is loose grit which can easily cause slips, so make sure you are in a stable position on the rocks.
The Surrounding Area
The area of Fife is an incredible location. If you walk the Fife Coastal Path, you will have the opportunity to experience the best of its beauty. The famous university town of St Andrews is also worth a visit. Only a twenty-five-minute drive away, the town is immersed in history. Also, as Elie has convenient transport links to Edinburgh, why not take a trip to the capital? Reward yourself after walking the Elie Chain Walk. There are many things to do; why not take a trip up Calton Hill or Arthur’s Seat.
