The experience from Drymen through to Balmaha will give you an insight into the charm of the Scottish countryside.

Garadhban Forest

Beginning in Drymen, the walk quickly reaches Garadhban Forest, a conifer plantation which is undergoing harvesting. This forest is also part of the Queen Elizabeth Forest Park. A long stretch of woodland walking in an area enclosed by trees. After this 6km stint you can either continue over Conic Hill or choose a bypass route.

Conic Hill

Conic Hill is a well-known highlight of the this route. The hill is made up of a form of conglomerate rocks and rounded stones which are cemented together by sandstone. Climbing the hill is a very worthwhile part of the Drymen to Balmaha leg. The route does not in fact reach the top but a ledge just below. In order to reach this, you will cross over the Burn of Mar, a place of extreme natural beauty!
To climb to the top of the hill taking a steep path on the left.  From the summit, you can experience views of the south west and the line of islands which follow the Highland Boundary Fault.  Views out to Goat Fell on the Isle of Arran are possible on a clear day.
