Machrie Moor Stone Circles

Located on Machrie Moor, three miles north of Blackwaterfoot, you will find these six groups of stone circles. A completely unique place to discover, they can be found along the Arran Coastal Way route. Though they do not form a pattern, the stones are similar to an archaeological site. The mysterious nature and location attracts many visitors to the northern part of Arran each year. After an excavation in the late nineteenth century, it was found that the site was used as a burial place for at least one important person.

Brodick Castle

Another historical site on the island is the Victorian estate of Brodick Castle, which is located just outside the main town of Brodick. On the coastline you can expect to be impressed by the amazing views of Brodick Bay. In Britain’s only island country park that is rich in history and charm there is so much to explore. The Old Clachan Church

This church has been a burial site for Christians since the medieval age. The beautiful scenery and idyllic views are enough to warrant a visit. Located on the south west side of the island, the church is close to Blackwaterfoot. A popular place in tracing ancestry with international tourists, the church is also a regular visiting place with Arran residents. You will come across the Shiskine Valley when enjoying the walks on Arran.

Arran Heritage Museum

Also located in Brodick is the Arran Heritage Museum. Though this museum is closed during winter, the museum includes a range of information about the island. From social history, geology to archaeology, it is the perfect place to learn more about the island.
