If you choose to enjoy one of the many walks on Arran you will notice the abundance of history the island has to offer. Arran’s history dates back to the stone age so you are not at a miss for historical culture!

Machrie Moor Stone Circles

Located on Machrie Moor, three miles north of Blackwaterfoot, you will find these six groups of stone circles. A completely unique place to discover, they can be found along the Arran Coastal Way route. Though they do not form a pattern, the stones are similar to an archaeological site. The mysterious nature and location attracts many visitors to the northern part of Arran each year. After an excavation in the late nineteenth century, it was found that the site was used as a burial place for at least one important person.

Brodick Castle

Another historical site on the island is the Victorian estate of Brodick Castle, which is located just outside the main town of Brodick. On the coastline you can expect to be impressed by the amazing views of Brodick Bay. In Britain’s only island country park that is rich in history and charm there is so much to explore. If you are enjoying one of the many walks on Arran you are sure to pass through!
