Kintyre Peninsula: Where to Explore – Tips from EasyWays

tarbert harbour

Tarbert is the perfect place to start The Kintyre Way and for a harbour stroll!

Tarbert

One of the most picturesque, quaint little villages you’ll ever come across, Tarbert is one of the best places for a holiday! Located towards the north of the peninsula, you are more than likely going to come across it during the time you spend on the peninsula. Tarbert has some beautiful routes perfect for a stroll; this includes the harbour, which looks out on to Loch Fyne. As this is the starting point of The Kintyre Way, EasyWays walkers will be sure to notice how special it is!

Campbeltown

Another place along the Kintyre peninsula you must visit is Campbeltown. Though it is extremely out of the way – even more so than Tarbert, Campbeltown is sheltered by Davaar Island, which has a lighthouse. A scene perfect for a photograph! Campbeltown used to be considered the whisky capital of the world, having 34 distilleries. Though Speyside took over, there are still 3 in operation. Pop by Glen Scotia, Glengyle and Springbank distilleries for a tour! We think that Campbeltown is the best place to base yourself if you are going to visit the south coast of the peninsula.

Machrihanish

In our last blog post about the Kintyre Way, we mentioned how idyllic Machrihanish beach is. As well as the beach Machrihanish is home to one of the best golf courses in Scotland. Located on the south-west coast of the peninsula, this little village is often overlooked by tourists! However, a trip to Machrihanish is very worthwhile – it has the best views of the Atlantic!
