Wine

Tuscany is not only a feast for the eyes with its unique landscapes, but also unbeatable when it comes to good food and fine wine. The famous wines such as Brunello di Montalcino and Chianti are produced in the region along with some of the finest gastronomy in all of Italy.

Fruit

The first time an EasyWays group walked the Via Francigena in Tuscany was in the late summer. It was then when we discovered that it is entirely possible to pick fruit such as peaches and figs,  from the trees along the wayside and plentiful grapes from vineyards that border the route.

Local Dishes You Must Try

Amongst a lot of other things, we recommend that you try wild truffle pasta, which you will most certainly be able to find in most of the local restaurants. Also, look out for a special focaccia bread, which is known locally as Schiacciata. This means “flattened down,” in Tuscan terms.  During the wine-grape harvest in September, Tuscans make this speciality, in which bread is combined with rosemary and grapes – it is said to be of Etruscan origin.
