Year of History, Heritage & Archaeology
2017 was Scotland’s Year of History, Heritage & Archaeology, celebrating the intriguing history, iconic cultural heritage and fascinating archaeology of the country. This past year was the perfect opportunity to get out and experience something new in Scotland. The Forres Falconer Museum, a perfect stop along The Dava Way, exhibits an impressive array of fossils collected by Hugh Falconer. You can find out more about the museum in our post here.
Featured Walkers
We were very fortunate this year to have some avid walkers, and amazing photographers share their stories and photographs with us. This stunning image was taken by Glen Campbell over Rannoch Mor, which you can experience for yourself along The West Highland Way. Queensferry Crossing
On the 4th Septemer 2017 the Queen officially opened the new Queensferry Crossing. This day also marked the 53rd anniversary of when the Queen opened the Forth Road Bridge. The ceremony featured speeches from the First Minister Nicola Sturgeon and a blessing from the Moderator of General Assembly of the Church of Scotland. A specially commissioned poem from Jackie Kay to commemorate the event was also performed as well as a range of Scottish musical talents.
Here at EasyWays we were delighted to see a new link opened up between our capital city and one of our most popular coastal walks, the Fife Coastal Path. We loved seeing all our friends pictures and hearing their stories over on our Facebook page as the participated in a once in a lifetime experience of walking across the bridge before it was open for traffic.
