Holiday Ideas in Scotland – Must Visit Destination in 2019

Central Scotland

Considering delving deeper into Central Scotland? Glasgow and Edinburgh, the two biggest cities in Scotland are in the central belt. Glasgow in the west and Edinburgh in the east. Both have an abundance of culture, many historical sites and the friendliest people. Not only that, but both have direct transport links to walking routes, to find out more about maybe lesser known parts of the country.

  • The starting point of the West Highland Way – Milngavie – is just a short train journey from Glasgow’s City Centre.
  • The Rob Roy Way, another one of our popular routes, begins in Drymen. This little village is accessible through bus and train, also from Glasgow.
  • The starting point of the Loch Lomond and Cowal Way, Portavadie, is accessed from Glasgow by train, via Dunoon by boat and bus.
  • From Edinburgh you can access one of our most popular walks, the Fife Coastal Path, by train. Arrive at its starting point of North Queensferry in just 20 minutes!
  • And finally, you can find your way to the beginning (and end) point of The Cateran Trail, Blairgowrie, by train and bus from Edinburgh via Dundee.

Taking part in a long distance walking holiday and taking in the stunning Scottish scenery is made easy in Central Scotland!

Highlands

As Lonely Planet noted, the Scottish Highlands are very much worth a trip next year. We would say that this region is particularly beautiful because of its quiet, relaxing atmosphere. An excellent point if you would like to learn more about important sites in Scottish religious, political and royal history. By walking with EasyWays you can relax and absorb the tranquility and nature, rather than being stressed about the planning, the transfer of your baggage and where you are staying! Walks we offer that allow you to spend time in the highlands of Scotland are:

Islands

And finally, we would agree with Lonely Planet in saying the islands surrounding Scotland’s west and north coast are home to some of the most idyllic landscapes in the world! If you’re going to visit Scotland, you must spend some time in at least one of its islands. With over 790, whether you visit the Inner or Outer Hebrides, Shetland or Orkney, many are very easy to get to! Some of our most popular walking routes are the on islands:

  • Arran Coastal Way – Arran is one of the most accessible of the Scottish Inner Hebrides! The route covers the circumference of the island, beginning and ending in the biggest town of Brodick. If you’re looking to experience a Scottish island but would like to stay closer to Glasgow and civilisation, the Arran Coastal Way is a great choice.
  • Kintyre Way – When booking the Kintyre Way with EasyWays, you can add a couple of days to your booking to give yourself time to explore the community-owned island of Gigha or the whisky-lover’s island of Islay
  • The Isle of Skye – Skye is one of the most popular holiday ideas in Scotland for international guests. It becomes very busy during the summer months, so we would recommend booking up early if you are interested in spending time in Skye on foot!

At EasyWays, we love to keep our walkers up to date with the most current news and information. Therefore, take a look at our last post to find out more about our patron Saint, St. Andrew!
